Based on recommendations from the BC Centre for Disease Control the following policy is in practice at Butterfly Corner Day Care. In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 measures include staying home when ill, practicing physical distancing, minimizing physical contact, hand hygiene, frequent cleaning and disinfection.
If child develops symptoms at home: For symptoms similar to a cold or the flu, parents must keep their child at home until they have been assessed by a health care provider to exclude COVID-19 or other infectious diseases, AND their symptoms have been resolved. My illness policy states 24 hours after the last fever. Call 811 HealthLink BC for any current information.
If child develops symptoms while at child care: Child will be immediately separated from other children while still being supervised until they can go home. The parent will be contacted to pick up the child right away. I will use a mask when in contact with child or keep a two metre distance. All doors will be open to increase air circulation. I will wash my hands, clean and disinfect where the child was separated and any area the child was used by the child.
If I am become sick during day care hours I will wear a mask and socially distance from the children when I can and send them home. I will then follow the advice of 811.
Prevention while at day care:
Children will play outside as much as possible. This will include activities, snack and lunch time. Please ensure children have appropriate clothing for all weather conditions.
Playgrounds can be visited if there aren’t too many people. Hand sanitizer will be used before, during and after playing.
Hand washing for 20 seconds will be required. When coming indoors, before and after eating, if hands are soiled, after sneezing or coughing, after using the washroom, after petting the cats.
Hand sanitizer is available at front and back entrance to the house, in the back pack for outings and will be used if hand washing is not available.
Children will be encouraged to “Cover Your Coughs” and to sneeze in their shirt. No sharing of food, drinks or personal items.

Physical distancing
Parents are required to wear masks when entering the day care premises. Drop offs and pick ups are done either outside or in the foyer. While children have activities provided that support their physical distancing, they are not required to play apart. Adults that come into the day care are required to keept two metres apart from each other. To support each other, please pick up your child in a timely manner so other families minimize wait time.
Prevention while inside day care:
General cleaning and disinfecting with soap and bleach is done at least once a day.
Frequently touched surfaces are cleaned and disinfected at least twice a day.
Any surface that is visibly dirty will be cleaned as needed.
Toys that cannot be cleaned easily will be kept with individual children’s bedding to be given at nap time. Parents can bring a special blanket or stuffie as long as they can be laundered each day at day care.
Bedding, stuffies and sleep mats or playpens are cleaned after every use.
Diapering stations are cleaned after every use.
